We improvised a mystery theater with the game set. What helped a lot was I had students who signed up but didn’t come. I was able to adjust the game with all the options with what I purchased. The kids had a great time and we had a great audience.
I run children’s library programming, and have been trying to build up our teen programs. I advertised and ran your Mystery In the Library and 15 kids signed up (which was a super big deal, since we are a tiny, one room neighborhood library.) On the day of, we ended up having 20 teenagers show up! I was so glad that the game extended to 16 guests – I just had a few kids double up on characters, which worked well for the shy ones. The game was very easy to run, and the kids have already demanded we do another. This particular theme was perfect in our library, since we didn’t need to set up very much to fit the setting. The characters were just sassy enough to appeal to the teens, and their various back stories and subplots kept everyone engaged. I liked that everyone needed to participate and speak out in order to move the game along. None of the kids guessed the actual villain! I think I can also reuse this kit to run an adult program, which is great for our limited budget.
Our teens really enjoyed “The Mystery in the Library” Party! They were very creative in how they came dressed for their part. They loved the activity–it really kept them guessing and the fellowship time together was great! We look forward to using some of your other parties too–thank you!
Great for Jr. Highers. I would suggest that whoever the “host” is, they read through all the clues and knows “who did it” at the end so they can steer the conversation in the direction it should go. When we found out who had done it, we realized that the motive had been kind of lost in the dialogue. Other than that, it was a fun night.
