Issue No 1: 15 June 2000

The first newsletter of Merri Mysteries.

Welcome to our first newsletter. Just to let you know our big news first:

  • we have changed our name from "Tailor Made Murders" to "Merri Mysteries" and we have
  • a new web address of www.merrimysteries.com (but our old web address also still works)
  • we are now running a bi-monthly photo competition - photos.htm.
  • we now have an affiliate program - affil.htm for details.
  • as part of our constant quality control program, we have also rewritten all the versions of "Mystery in the Library" so they are shorter, have more interaction between the characters and so Sherlock Holmes' part is improved. If you would like us to rewrite one of our mysteries, please let us know.

Innovative party decorations...

In North Ireland, Anne went to a lot of trouble with the decorations for her "Murder In Outer Space" (no longer for sale) dinner party. She made little green men and stuck them on cardboard place mats and below she placed a large circle of alfoil. She also surrounded the table with a curtain of silver streamers and put bent blue candle on the table.

A successful large group event using "Mystery in the Library"

"Hi Stephanie! Remember me? I purchased the script for 50 for our teacher appreciation dinner. We held the event on Friday night and I cannot tell you what a huge success it turned out to be. We spent three long evenings decorating for this event and when you walked in to the room you really thought you had walked in to an old English library. We had wonderful scenes of Sherlock Holmes and Alice with the Queen of Hearts on the wall.

We are fortunate to have several artists on staff. The teachers gave 100% with their costume, most going out and renting very elaborate outfits. The script was wonderfully written, my staff adlibbed beautifully.

We laughed for 4 hours straight. What a wonderful evening we had. The classified staff dressed as English maids and butlers in black and white and we served grilled steak or chicken, serving approximately 110 people. It was a night to remember and I am hearing the same sentiments from the entire staff. They are wanting a repeat for next year! Whew! It was a tremendous amount of work but it all paid off. Thank you for helping to make this evening so very special!

Sincerely,
Laura Fox"

Feedback on our new mystery: "The Balmy Bahamas Cruise"

Christine Marlowe and Deborah Alpers had this mystery written for their party and they said:

"Stephanie- The party was a smash! Everyone is still talking about it..... Had 1/2 the group over this past weekend for a post gathering to look at pictures. The costumes were great.

Great great fun! All were very impressed that we found a co. to write the script... They loved the script, it played smoothly! At the end, we went around the room and asked "Who & Why". Many had long sordid tales but only one guest guessed who did it and why.... She was exactly correct, we were quite surprised!!

Walking the plank was a huge hit !! We had a big bucket of squirt-guns preloaded before anyone arrived hiding in the back yard.... When XXX was getting blindfolded, the squirt-guns were snatched up in a hurry and everyone gathered around chanting and yelling stuff like "You shall drown for your crimes." XXX was a very good sport, soaked but still happy ! Very funny stuff......

Thank you for all your hard work, your effort were greatly appreciated. Until next year!"

Our other new mystery:

We have recently finished a new mystery called "Trouble on Board" which was written for a group of 12 people cruising the Mediterranean. It is unlike any of our other mysteries in that the "murder" takes place during the mystery.

I hope you enjoyed our new newsletter. If you would like to contribute to our August 15 newsletter, please let us know.

All the best
